CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - Bruce Hartmann, former president and publisher of the Knoxville News Sentinel, has been named president of the Chattanooga Publishing Co., which publishes the Chattanooga Times Free Press.

Hartmann was also formerly chief revenue officer and vice president of sales and marketing for the E.W. Scripps Co.’s publishing division.

He succeeds Jason Taylor as president. Taylor is now president and publisher of The Clarion-Ledger in Jackson, Mississippi, and regional president of U.S. Community Publishing East Group.

The Times Free Press (https://bit.ly/1qrHpqj ) said Hartmann’s hiring was announced Thursday.

Addressing employees, Hartmann said he plans to lean on staff knowledge because despite industry challenges, readers still want local news.

The Times Free Press is a WEHCO Media Inc. newspaper. WEHCO Newspapers Inc. President Jeff Jeffus said Hartmann is “uniquely qualified” to meet challenges facing the newspaper industry.
