HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) - A Huntington City Council member has resigned following his latest arrest.

Media outlets report that Pete Gillespie sent a two-sentence resignation letter to the city clerk on Tuesday. Gillespie’s letter said he enjoyed serving the citizens of Huntington. But he believes it’s in their best interest that he step down.

Gillespie was convicted in August on charges of domestic battery and violation of a domestic violence order. He was sentenced to home confinement.

He was arrested on Sept. 30 after Cabell County home confinement officers found a rifle and three pistols in his home. Possessing a firearm violated the terms of Gillespie’s home confinement.
