ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (AP) - A Rock Island man in custody for allegedly firing a gun toward a person has been charged with conspiring to pay off the witness.

The Rock Island Argus reports (https://bit.ly/1oTIc3R ) 28-year-old Deontay Hearn is now charged with communicating with a witness, which is a felony. Warrants were issued for three other men accused of conspiring with Hearn.

Hearn was charged with felony counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm and possessing a weapon as a felon. Prosecutors say he fired a gun in the direction of the witness in July.

They say the four suspects offered to pay the witness if he either didn’t show up for court or testified that Hearn didn’t shoot at him.

Hearn remains in the Rock Island County Jail. It wasn’t immediately clear if he has an attorney.
