GREENWOOD, Ark. (AP) - A Sebastian County judge has removed from the ballot a plan to annex several tracts of property into Greenwood.

Two lawsuits were filed over the annexation proposals, which would have added areas north and west of Greenwood into the city. The lawsuits alleged that the city violated the Freedom of Information Act when the city attorney individually spoke with four city council members before the panel voted on whether to split the proposal into eight ballot measures.

The Southwest Times Record reports (https://bit.ly/10UMjr3 ) that Sebastian County Circuit Court Judge Michael Fitzhugh ruled Wednesday that the individual meetings violated the open meetings law and removed the questions from the ballot.

Arkansas Municipal League director of legal services Mark Hayes, who represented Greenwood in the case, says he’ll appeal the judge’s ruling.
