LA CRESCENT, Minn. (AP) - A former treasurer for La Crescent’s Applefest is facing charges that she stole money from the community event.

The La Crosse Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1vSO6YS ) the 32-year-old woman from La Crosse, Wisconsin, is due in Houston County court in November on felony charges of financial transaction card fraud, theft by false representation and theft.

Applefest Board President Mary Lehrman says the treasurer used the organization’s checks and debit card for personal expenses last year and cash was missing from beer sales. She says $8,000 was missing in total.

Police say the woman admitted to taking money to pay her cellphone bill and to authorizing relatives and other board members to use the organization’s credit card for gasoline. They say she admitted taking about $2,400 for personal expenses.

It’s unclear if she is in custody.
