DALY CITY, Calif. (AP) - A judge has ruled that an 85-year-old man who was charged with shooting at a San Francisco Bay Area doctor who had treated him for pain should be committed to a mental hospital.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports Thursday (https://bit.ly/1qqLU4l) Judge Jonathan Karesh of San Mateo County Superior Court sent Raymond Iwase of Daly City to Napa State Hospital after determining he is unfit to stand trial.

Prosecutors say Iwase waited for Dr. Kevin Wong inside a medical building and opened fire after encountering him in a hallway. They say Iwase thought the doctor had given him pain medication that made him sick. No one was hurt in the April attack.

Iwase had been charged with premeditated attempted murder and assault with a firearm.
