BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A western New York bookkeeper has been sentenced to four to 12 years in prison for stealing nearly $2 million from the dermatologist she worked for.

Prosecutors say 53-year-old Suzanne Glawatz (GLAH-wits) stole more than $1.8 million over a seven-year period by pocketing cash from co-pays and having her employer write loan checks for her, which she falsely claimed to pay back. Prosecutors say she spent the money on a lavish lifestyle, including a Mercedes Benz, family vacations and law school for her child.

Her lawyer blamed the spending sprees on bipolar disorder and an antidepressant she was taking.

Glawatz, from the Buffalo suburb of Lancaster, has to make restitution. She has paid back $130,000 so far by selling her home, car and other possessions.
