PAINESVILLE, Ohio (AP) - A northeast Ohio woman has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity in the fatal stabbing of her elderly mother.

Fifty-six-year-old Dawn Pierce of Mentor (MEN’-tur) entered her plea in Lake County Common Pleas Court on Wednesday. She was indicted last week on one count of aggravated murder in the slaying of 86-year-old Lillian Pierce.

The (Willoughby) News-Herald (https://bit.ly/1yPgnmZ ) reports that Lillian Pierce was stabbed at least 10 times at the home the women shared on Sept. 28.

Dawn Pierce will be evaluated by a court psychologist to help determine her sanity and competency to stand trial. A hearing was scheduled for Nov. 10. She’s being held with a $5 million bond.
