DETROIT (AP) - Detroit police say criminal charges are unlikely after a pack of pit bulls severely mauled a Detroit man.

Sgt. Michael Woody tells the Detroit Free Press that the owner of the dogs has been issued several citations. The 61-year-old owner was arrested Friday on an unrelated warrant, but was released on Tuesday.

The 50-year-old man who was attacked Thursday is hospitalized. Ron Gulledge says his roommate was “mangled” after the attack, losing most of one arm and having his head and other limbs bitten.

Woody says it appears there was no malicious intent on behalf of the dogs’ owner, who wasn’t home at the time of the attack.

Police killed one dog at the scene and rounded up at least 11 others. Those dogs were later euthanized.
