SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - A 23-year-old Santa Fe woman has been sentenced to 18 months of probation for the shooting death of her boyfriend.

A District Court judge on Wednesday also ordered that Meagan Sayre be eligible for conditional discharge. That means her conviction for involuntary manslaughter would not appear on her record if she successfully completes the probation sentence.

Sayre apologized in court to the family of March 22 death of 28-year-old Oron “Rocky” Giese. He was killed during an argument involving a third person after a night of drinking.

Judge Glenn Ellington called the case a tragedy.

The sentence includes a requirement to perform 500 hours of community service and pay restitution to the victim’s family.
