VIDALIA, La. (AP) - Authorities say a boat delivering supplies on the Mississippi River began to sink suddenly, leaving two crew members stranded in the water before being rescued by a tugboat.

Vidalia Assistant Police Chief Bruce Wiley tells The Natchez Democrat (https://bit.ly/1seWUao ) officers responded to a call of an overturned boat around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.

After searching the river with spotlights, Wiley says police traveled to Two J Ranch to meet a tugboat captain who had found two people stranded in the river.

Police say the unidentified crew members were employees of Upriver Boat Supply and were in the process of handing of goods to a tugboat when the boat suddenly started sinking.

Wiley says one crew member was taken to the hospital to receive stitches, while the other was treated by first responders.
