GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) - Gaston County authorities say a Bessemer City High School student and his mother are charged after a disturbance following a meeting with school officials.

Multiple media outlets say the mother was talking with officials Thursday about a disciplinary issue regarding her son. Police say when the school resource officer tried to arrest the teenager for disorderly conduct, the teenager charged the officer, who fired a Taser at the teen.

According to police, the teen’s mother saw the exchange and tried to get to her son. Police say she scratched the assistant principal in the neck and elbowed her in the upper body.

Mother and son are both charged with assault on a government official and disorderly conduct. Both were jailed, and it’s not known if either person has an attorney.
