HONOLULU (AP) - A 72-year-old man was in critical condition after he was pulled from the waters off Waikiki Beach.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser (https://bit.ly/1o1tKMq) reports an off-duty lifeguard and a bystander on Wednesday morning pulled the unconscious man out in front of Royal Hawaiian Hotel.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services says the man at about 10 a.m. was unresponsive in knee-deep water.

The off-duty lifeguard and the bystander began CPR. Lifeguards took over attempting to resuscitate him.

The man was breathing when paramedics arrived. He was rushed to a hospital.
