BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - At least 40 rounds were fired during a gun battle outside a Birmingham motorcycle club that killed two people and wounded two others, police said.

The shooting happened shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday outside the Showstoppers Motorcycle Club, Birmingham police said. Investigators believe the battle came from an argument between members of two different motorcycle clubs.

Potential witnesses were not cooperating with detectives, Birmingham police Lt. Sean Edwards said Monday afternoon. No arrests had been made.

“There were a lot of people out last night in that area, but nobody is really talking to us,” Edwards said.

Several people fired shots during the gunfight, leaving the two people who died with wounds to their chests and backs.

Edwards said the two people who were wounded are both expected to survive.

Names of the people shot were not immediately released.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene as they recounted the shootings in interviews with Al.com.

“There were shell casings everywhere,” Edwards told The Associated Press.

Asked about the possibility of retaliation, Edwards said that’s always a possibility. Information about the shootings has been shared with officers across the city, so they can be on alert, he said.
