ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York state residents are being challenged to eat local in September.

The Northeast Organic Farming Association of New York is launching its fifth annual month-long Locavore Challenge on Monday.

Participants are encouraged to buy local fruits and vegetables, sip local wines and make bread from local organic grains. People can choose which local challenges to take up at the web site www.nylocavorechallenge.com .

The idea is to inspire awareness about local food options and sustainability.
