ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say a police officer has been released from a hospital after being shot while responding to a domestic dispute in Clarke County.

Athens-Clarke County police said Senior Police Officer Michael Ward was wounded on Sunday and then treated for the single gunshot wound at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Police Capt. Charles Newson described the injury as a superficial gunshot wound when the suspect apparently grabbed the officer’s gun while it was holstered.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1qj5sMt) that a 28-year-old suspect was apprehended in the shooting and faced charges of aggravated assault and aggravated battery on a police officer.
