BLUFFDALE, Utah (AP) - Authorities say a hoax 911 caller who falsely reported a hostage situation to Saratoga Springs police could face felony charges if caught.

Saratoga Springs Police Chief Andrew Burton says officers received a call Sunday night from someone who claimed to have fatally shot his mother and then taken his father hostage.

Officers arrived at the home in Bluffdale south of Salt Lake City and discovered the story was false.

Burton says the caller also called the family that lived in the Bluffdale home and told them to expect police.
