FLORENCE, Ore. (AP) - Police say a pedestrian was struck and killed by a car on Highway 101 north of Florence in what may have been an intentional act on the part of the pedestrian.

According to the Oregon State Police, the 48-year-old man was a passenger in a vehicle headed to the store Monday. When the vehicle pulled into a private driveway, the man got out and approached the road.

Police say when a Honda Civic approached, the man moved into its path. The 19-year-old driver veered left and hit the brake, but couldn’t avoid hitting the man who was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The investigation remains active.
