CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Wyoming’s unemployment rate was well below the national average over the first three months of this year.

The state Economic Analysis Division says unemployment in Wyoming in the first quarter was 4.2 percent. That’s compared to 6.7 percent nationwide.

State economist Wenlin Lieu says people should be optimistic about the labor market in Wyoming. He says the economy in and around Cheyenne, particularly, is strong with plenty of construction work under way and strong retail sales.

Andrea Hixon with the state Department of Workforce Services tells the Wyoming Tribune Eagle (https://bit.ly/Y6aJwG) job availability in the Cheyenne area is shifting from an employer’s market to a job-seeker’s market.
