ATLANTA (AP) - A leading Georgia Democrat says she’s questions the motive behind a state investigation into her group’s voter registration work.

Democratic House Minority Leader Stacy Abrams tells WXIA-TV (https://on.11alive.com/1qH5XAq ) her organization, the New Georgia Project, has registered 85,000 new voters.

WSB-TV reported Tuesday that the group was subpoenaed for all its records and Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp has said his office has gotten complaints about the group submitting inaccurate and fraudulent registration forms.

The group has been ordered to submit its records by Sept. 16. Abrams says her group has responded aggressively to allegations against its canvassing staff.

WXIA reports Kemp has declined to elaborate on how many fraudulent forms his office is investigating.

The Georgia NAACP is planning a press conference Thursday to speak out against the investigation.
