YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) - Yakima Municipal Court clerk Sarah Matheny has been fired for using her work computer to look up driving records and background on other candidates in her race for the job of Yakima County clerk.

City Manager Tony O’Rourke says he fired Matheny on Monday and asked for an investigation by the state attorney general’s office to ensure the security of the electoral process.

Matheny’s lawyer, Bill Pickett, told the Yakima Herald-Republic (https://bit.ly/1rW9LA4) the firing was unfair because she had already been disciplined. She plans to sue the city for wrongful termination.

Matheny is continuing her campaign for Yakima County clerk.
