SEATTLE (AP) - A fire that sent a pillar of black smoke into the blue sky over downtown Seattle started on the roof of a Capitol Hill apartment building.

Fire Department spokesman Kyle Moore says the flames did not spread down into the five-story building. The residents of the 25 units evacuated on their own. There are no reports of injuries.

Moore says the department sent a large two-alarm response Thursday morning because it’s an older building. It took firefighters about 15 minutes to control the fire.

Investigators are looking for the cause in an area of the roof where a deck and patio furniture were set up.
