STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) - Stamford police say a 27-year-old autistic man was tricked and robbed of $100 he had received for his birthday by a man who pretended to befriend him at a local park.

Police have released security video of robbery, which occurred Tuesday in the breezeway that leads from Veteran’s Park to the Stamford Town Center.

Police say the victim, whose name was not released, was on his way to a store to buy video games with the money, when the suspect engaged him in a conversation.

Police say the man excitedly showed the suspect his birthday money. The man took it and taunted the victim before pretending to put it back in the man’s pocket. Stamford police and the police union have organized a collection to reimburse the victim.
