KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) - A Browning man has denied punching his girlfriend and knocking her unconscious during an argument and then dragging her to the side of the road.

The Flathead Beacon reports (https://bit.ly/1whwrsv ) 39-year-old Calvin Steve Spotted Eagle pleaded not guilty Thursday to felony partner or family member assault during a District Court appearance in Kalispell. He remained jailed with bail set at $30,000. His trial was set for Nov. 3.

Charging documents say Spotted Eagle and his girlfriend were arguing near downtown Kalispell last month when he started hitting her, then punched her in the head as they were crossing a street. The woman fell, hit her head on the pavement and was knocked unconscious.

Prosecutors allege Spotted Eagle dragged her to the side of the road. The woman was taken to the hospital.

Spotted Eagle’s public defender could not be reached for comment.
