ROODHOUSE, Ill. (AP) - A 19-year-old man cutting down trees in a rural area in western Illinois was killed when he was struck by a falling tree, authorities said.

The Greene County Coroner told The Jacksonville Journal-Courier (https://bit.ly/YAJACj ) that Nicholas J. Alexander was with another person logging trees behind a residence on a farm near the tiny community of Roodhouse on Wednesday when he was killed.

“They cut down a tree, which ricocheted off another tree is what I was told by other people at the scene - and hit this boy on the head,” Coroner Dean Bishop said.

Alexander was pronounced dead at 6:30 p.m., and his death was determined to be an accident.
