PEMBROKE, N.C. (AP) - A Pembroke police detective has been suspended after he was charged with two counts of misdemeanor sexual battery.

The Fayetteville Observer reported (https://bit.ly/1lXBGgK ) that town attorney Gary Locklear said that 45-year-old Reese Oxendine was told of the suspension late Tuesday

The State Bureau of Investigation filed the criminal charges Monday.

Locklear said the charges stem from allegations of sexual harassment made by a female Pembroke town employee in March. Police conducted an internal investigation and Oxendine was suspended for three days.

Locklear said Robeson County District Attorney Johnson Britt then asked the State Bureau of Investigation to investigate.
