PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island Democratic gubernatorial nominee Gina Raimondo has won the support of a union that endorsed one of her primary opponents.

The general treasurer’s campaign announced Thursday that the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 328 has endorsed her. The union had supported Providence Mayor Angel Taveras in the primary.

The mayor also had the support of the state’s largest public-employee union, Council 94. First-time candidate Clay Pell was backed by National Education Association Rhode Island.

Raimondo immediately began reaching out to key labor officials after her victory Tuesday night. Leaders at Council 94 and NEARI say it’s too soon to say whether or whom they will endorse.

Public-sector unions and retirees have sued over the 2011 pension overhaul that Raimondo crafted.

She faces Republican nominee Allan Fung in November.
