MOUNTAIN GROVE, Mo. (AP) - A southwest Missouri city council has impeached one of its members over accusations that he abused his position on the council.

The Mountain Grove City Council voted 6-2 on Wednesday to impeach alderman Bruce Long, despite objections from some people who attended the council meeting.

The Ozark Radio Network reports (https://bit.ly/1aJy8U9 ) that witnesses accused Long of such infractions as interfering with police investigations, trying to intimidate chamber of commerce officials and speaking to ethics investigators without consulting the council.

Long said during the hearing that most of the incidents were misunderstandings. His attorney, Steve Privette, said nothing Long was accused of was an impeachable offense.

Privette said if Long wanted to try and reclaim the seat, a judge could rule on whether the impeachment hearing was conducted properly.
