MORRISTOWN, N.J. (AP) - A Morris County teenager has been criminally charged in connection with a car crash that killed two high school classmates this summer.

Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp said Thursday the teen, who hasn’t been identified, was charged with two counts of death by auto and one count of assault by auto for the July 26 crash in Randolph.

School officials confirmed at the time of the accident that the victims were Jack Timmerman and Calvin Verduga, friends who played on Randolph High School’s football team.

Police said the car was speeding down a road when the driver lost control and hit a tree.
