ALEXANDRA, Va. (AP) - Officials in Fairfax County are warning residents after two possible sightings of a cougar in the area of an elementary school in Alexandria.

Fairfax County Animal Control received two reported sightings of a large cat near Riverside Elementary School on Old Mount Vernon Road. The animal has been described as sand or orange in color with a tail equal to the length of its body.

Animal control officials are setting up wildlife cameras and planned to patrol the area Friday. But officials say they haven’t found any evidence confirming the presence of the animal.

School officials have been informed of the sightings.

Anyone who sees the animal is asked to call police in Fairfax County at 703-691-2131.
