HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say drug incidents at Hilton Head Island Middle School resulted in four female students being hospitalized and five being suspended.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reported ( https://bit.ly/1tGyKDB ) both incidents happened late last week. Authorities say an eighth-grader told a teacher she and four friends had taken Vyvanse, a prescription drug for attention-deficit disorder. The girl said she and a second student took the drugs from home because neither wanted to live.

Four of the girls were hospitalized while the mother of a fifth girl was advised to take her daughter to the hospital.

One of those girls and four other students were suspended in a second incident in which an assistant principal found they had taken the over-the-counter cold medicine.
