DULAC, La. (AP) - Terrebonne Parish officials say the Dulac Pontoon Bridge may be closed for the next two weeks for emergency repairs.

Repairs on the bridge’s hydraulic winch system forced what was expected to be a short closure early this week. Once crews with the Houma based Cross Group began the work, parish officials say was apparent that the work required was more extensive than estimated.

In its Wednesday night meeting, The Courier reports (https://bit.ly/1tGRanM) the Terrebonne Parish Council voted to fast-track a $30,000 contract for the Cross Group to conduct the necessary repairs.

Officials say stresses on the aging winch caused it to fail.

The bridge is a vital link between the people and businesses in lower Bayou Dularge and the rest of the parish.
