BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A former Bush administration staff is taking over as president of a conservative think tank in Birmingham.

Caleb Crosby has been named to lead the Alabama Policy Institute. He’s been with the group for more than three years as vice president and chief financial officer.

Crosby worked with President George W. Bush’s administration in the Environmental Protection Agency and as a financial adviser. He also worked at the Treasury Department.

Crosby will replace Republican congressional candidate Gary Palmer, who’s a heavy favorite to win the seat being vacated by Rep. Spencer Bachus.

Palmer helped found the organization but stepped aside to run for Congress. He faces Democrat Mark Lester in the November election.

The Alabama Policy Institute is a nonprofit group that advocates conservative positions.
