FARGO, N.D. (AP) - Fargo’s mayor says his health is improving as he’s undergoing treatment for kidney cancer.

Dennis Walaker was diagnosed earlier this summer with renal cell carcinoma. Walaker tells KFGO-AM he’s able to do his mayoral duties as his staff keeps him in the loop.

Walaker underwent both chemotherapy and radiation treatment. He’s in a rehab facility after suffering some initial setbacks with weakness and dehydration.

Walaker says he hopes to go home next week to continue his recovery.

He says he’s unsure if he’ll be at the City Council meeting on Monday but will try to call in.
