ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - Authorities are investigating a drowning at a popular swimming hole east of Aspen.

The Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to the Devil’s Punchbowl between Aspen and Independence Pass at about 3:35 p.m. Friday after witnesses reported that a man had gone into the Roaring Fork River. The man, identified as 38-year-old Pankajkumar Swaminarayan, of Stafford, Texas, was apparently trying to help his wife after she fell into the water.

Witnesses said Swaminarayan was underwater for 10 to 15 minutes, and it appeared he could not swim.
