DETROIT (AP) - A Detroit man who apparently was trying to set his partner on fire also fatally burned himself when the flames followed the trail of an accelerant used to start the blaze.

Police say Friday in a release that the two men were found severely burned about 10 p.m. Thursday in a home on the city’s southwest side.

Medical examiner’s office spokeswoman Mary Mazur says autopsies were performed Friday, but results on both men are pending.

She says one man, 22-year-old Edward Pickle Jr., has been identified by his father. The other man has not yet been identified.

Assistant Chief Steve Dolunt calls the incident a domestic dispute.

He tells The Detroit News that “one man wanted to inflict great damage on his partner, but he wasn’t trying to kill himself.”
