COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - A 59-year-old man who was convicted in the 1976 rape and murder of a Colorado Springs woman after DNA evidence linked him to the crime has been sentenced to life in prison.

The Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1qQuTnw ) Robert Baillie was sentenced Friday for the Dec. 3, 1976, death of 38-year-old Janet K. Conrad, whose body was found in a linen closet at the Antlers Hilton hotel where she worked as a housekeeper.

The initial investigation didn’t lead to an arrest, but police reopened the case in 2009 using DNA evidence. Prosecutors say that evidence linked Baillie to the crime in 2012.

He was arrested in January 2013 at the Fremont state prison, where he was serving time on a sexual assault conviction. Baillie was convicted of Conrad’s murder Sept 3.
