PHOENIX (AP) - A 91-year-old man is recovering at a hospital after being bit by a rattlesnake while entering a grocery store in a desert town in western Arizona.

Frank Anner says he’d just opened the door and walked into the store in Quartzsite on Wednesday when he got bit just above his ankle by the adult western diamondback, a rattlesnake common in Arizona.

Officials at Banner Good Samaritan Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix say Anner is responding well to treatment.

Medical technologist Frank Lovecchio at Banner tells the Arizona Republic (https://bit.ly/1pUYyrQ ) that July through September is the peak season for snakebites in Arizona.

He says snakes like to move around when the temperature is hot at night and the moisture is high.
