PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Motorists stopping in Jamestown had better fuel up first. There’s no gas available on the island until October.

WPRI-TV (https://bit.ly/1tH99dE ) reports that the island’s only two gas stations are closed.

A Cumberland Farms is expected to reopen on Oct. 8 after renovations. The other station is closing permanently.

People will have to take a bridge to Newport or to North Kingstown for a fill up.

The island community has about 5,400 year-round residents. Resident Brad Pearson says he’ll really have to pay attention so he doesn’t get marooned on the island.

A sign is greeting drivers to the islands alerts them that there is nowhere to get gas.
