STUART, Fla. (AP) - The parents of an autistic Florida boy who died in a sailboat fire over the Labor Day weekend have been released from the hospital.

Brian Birely and Karen Laake were injured when the 45-foot vessel they called home caught fire Aug. 31 while moored on the St. Lucie River. Their 11-year-old son Charlie died in the blaze. Authorities say Charlie’s parents tried to rescue him as the boat was engulfed in flames.

The couple’s 13-year-old daughter was not injured.

A family spokeswoman tells The Palm Beach Post (https://bit.ly/1qPdhIP ) that the couple were released late Wednesday from a Miami hospital. Alanna Apap says the family is asking for privacy as they continue to recover.

Apap says the family is arranging funeral services for Charlie.
