ST. FRANCISVILLE, La. (AP) - West Feliciana Parish President Kevin Couhig says the acquisition, and pending recommissioning, of 22 miles of unused railroad track near St. Francisville will be a major economic boost for the area.

The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1pcOrP3) Geaux Geaux Railroad LLC has completed acquisition of the “Zee” railroad line from Illinois Central/Canadian National Railroad.

Couhig says the 22 miles of unused track from south of Baker through Zachary and Slaughter and ends at KPAQ Industries in southern West Feliciana Parish.

Couhig says the track will be reconditioned before being recommissioned. He says it eventually will provide transportation of freight and materials for businesses along the route with access to a variety of key metropolitan areas including New Orleans, Chicago and Mobile, Alabama.
