GEORGETOWN, Del. (AP) - A 15-year-old girl has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for her role in the kidnapping of an 89-year-old woman who was locked in her car trunk for two days before being abandoned at a cemetery.

Junia McDonald, who was charged as an adult, pleaded guilty to carjacking, kidnapping and conspiracy charges. She was sentenced Friday in Superior Court in Georgetown.

McDonald is one of four teenagers charged with kidnapping 89-year-old Margaret E. Smith in March 2013.

The News Journal of Wilmington reports (https://delonline.us/1ByNGbM) that Carla Jackson, McDonald’s mother, tearfully asked the judge to show mercy in sentencing her daughter, and asked for a second chance for McDonald.
