DELAND, Fla. (AP) - Alex Lakes had 13 carries for 151 yards and scored three of Mercer’s six rushing touchdowns in a 49-0 romp of Stetson on Saturday night.

Mercer (2-1) went on top quickly and never looked back. After forcing and recovering a fumble on the opening kickoff, the Bears found the end zone 42 seconds into the contest as Lakes dashed in from 12 yards out.

Tee Mitchell’s 21-yard touchdown along with two more scores from Lakes and a 37-yard strike from John Russ to JT Palmer made it 35-0 at halftime. Palmer had five receptions for 77 yards.

Payton Usher and JeTarii Donald also added long touchdown runs in the second half for Mercer.

Stetson (1-2) was limited to 244 yards and committed five turnovers. Ryan Tentler was 11 of 24 for 107 yards with two interceptions.
