MANISTEE, Mich. (AP) - The Little River Band of Ottawa Indians is conducting its annual sturgeon release this weekend at the Big Manistee River.

Young sturgeon will be released Saturday at 2:30 p.m., following a half-hour ceremony. It will be held at the Rainbow Bend access site, where the tribe has its sturgeon rearing station.

The public is invited to attend the events. At 1 p.m., there will be a tour of the rearing facility and activities for children.

The Little River Band has been collecting sturgeon eggs and raising the young fish for 11 years in an effort to restore populations of the ancient Great Lakes species.
