AMHERST, N.H. (AP) - Authorities say a 69-year-old Amherst woman died after she was shot several times and her 35-year-old son was killed by a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The state attorney general, state police and Amherst police had been calling the deaths of a Jonathan and Elizabeth Trombly a murder-suicide. A statement released late Wednesday did not use that term.

The bodies were discovered in a home in Amherst when police were called to check on the residents.

The investigation continues.
