PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island State Police say they have apprehended an inmate from the state prison in Cranston who escaped from a work detail this week.

Authorities said 25-year-old Keurys Pena was taken into custody without incident Wednesday afternoon while walking on Daboll Street in Providence. The Violent Fugitive Task Force had developed information that he was in that area.

Pena, who also goes by the name Michael Santana, was reported missing Monday afternoon after he walked away from a work assignment at the Prison Industries Building. He was serving 4½ years for breaking and entering.

Police said he’s expected to be arraigned Thursday in Warwick on a charge of escape from a correctional institution. The charge carries a sentence of up to three years or a maximum $500 fine.
