“Baby killer supporter” and “Ms. Abortion America” may not be common monikers for beauty queens, but those are a few of the names being hurled at the recently crowned Miss America, Kira Kazantsev, after a pro-life news website exposed her 2013 internship at Planned Parenthood.

In a news story monday, LifeNews.com revealed that, according to Ms. Kazantsev’s LinkedIn profile (which has since been removed) she interned at a Planned Parenthood in New York City for three months in 2013, where her job duties were described as, “Assisted delivery of programs in local public schools, teaching children about mutual respect & self-esteem” and “Conducted research on Planned Parenthood Education.”

The site went on to slam Ms. Kazantsev, the newly crowned Miss America, for interning “for the very organization that has killed millions of Americans in abortions.”

After the story broke, people took to social media, criticizing Ms. Kazantsev, with some individuals even asking her to step down, as first reported by The Huffington Post

In a statement released to HuffPo, Planned Parenthood confirmed that Ms. Kazantesev, who represented New York in the competition, had interned at one of their New York locations.

“Miss America Kira Kazantsev interned last year at her local Planned Parenthood affiliate, where she supported staff members who provide sex education in the community and at local schools. Several past Miss Americas have supported Planned Parenthood’s mission, and we’re thrilled and proud that one of our former interns is the new Miss America,” the statement read.
