NEW YORK (AP) - A New York City district attorney has founded a coalition of 23 prosecutors from around the country aimed at combating gun violence nationwide.

The group, Prosecutors Against Gun Violence, is a non-partisan and independent coalition that will work on policy and prosecutorial solutions to gun violence. Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance is co-chairing the group with Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer.

Vance says gun violence destabilizes communities around the country - and by coming together law enforcement officials can achieve real progress.

The coalition will have a summit in Atlanta on Oct. 21 and 22 on gang violence reduction, illegal weapons trafficking and the link between mental health issues and gun violence.

The group includes prosecutors from Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, New Orleans, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Seattle, among others.
