PRINCETON, N.J. (AP) - Gov. Chris Christie will campaign closer to home after spending the last few months backing Republican gubernatorial candidates around the county.

Christie is scheduled to attend a fundraiser on Thursday for New Jersey Republican Jeff Bell.

Bell is challenging Democratic incumbent Cory Booker for U.S. Senate.

Recent polls have shown Bell trailing Booker. But the surveys have also shown many independent voters are undecided.

No Republican has been elected to represent New Jersey in the Senate since 1972.
