COTTAGE GROVE, Minn. (AP) - A suburban Twin Cities company has local approval for a medical marijuana manufacturing plant.

The Cottage Grove City Council has given Leafline Labs a conditional use permit to build a cultivating and processing facility on 24 acres of land it owns in the community.

Leafline can only move forward if the Minnesota Department of Health chooses it as a provider of medical marijuana. Two medical manufacturers will be chosen and registered by Dec. 1.

A medical marijuana law was passed by the state Legislature in May, allowing an estimated 5,000 eligible residents to obtain and use pot for medical purposes. The state will take applications through Oct. 3

KSTP-TV (https://bit.ly/1meYXKY ) says medical marijuana can be sold as early as next July.
